You can install one or both clients from the VMware v Center™ Installer wizard.
Virtual Disk Development Kit (VDDK) 5.1.2 adds support for ESXi 5.1 Update 2 and v Center Server 5.1 Update 2 releases. To determine which processors, storage devices, SAN arrays, and I/O devices are compatible with v Sphere 5.1 Update 2, use the ESXi 5.1 Update 2 information in the VMware Compatibility Guide.
If your host hardware is not compatible, a purple screen appears with an incompatibility information message, and you cannot install or upgrade to v Sphere 5.1 Update 2.
After you upgrade v Center Server or the ESXi host to v Sphere 5.1 Update 2 and attempt to connect to the v Center Server or the ESXi host using a version of v Sphere Client earlier than 5.1 Update 1b, you are prompted to upgrade the v Sphere Client to v Sphere Client 5.1 Update 2. You must use only the upgraded v Sphere Client to access v Sphere 5.1 Update 2.
The VMware Product Interoperability Matrix provides details about the compatibility of current and previous versions of VMware v Sphere components, including ESXi, VMware v Center Server, the v Sphere Web Client, and optional VMware products.
To use such virtual machines on ESXi 5.1 Update 2 , upgrade the virtual machine compatibility. Read the v Sphere Installation and Setup documentation for step-by-step guidance on installing and configuring ESXi and v Center Server.
Although the installations are straightforward, several subsequent configuration steps are essential.
